Alan Neill

Alan was introduced to the senior game by Alex Smith when he signed for Clyde from Bathgate in February 1993. In his second season with Clyde he won the a Championship medal and promotion into the first division. Alan was then instrumental in Clyde's First Division campaign missing only five games and attracting attention from lots of other clubs.

Reconstruction brought Clyde back to the second and it was not a happy time until he secured a move to East Stirling. At 'Shire he put a number of good performances and impressed Paul Smith so much the manager brought him to Shielfield in June 1998.

His first season in Black and Gold was terrible. He occupied the left-back position but failed to prove his worth to the Shielfield faithful, although he started all but one game. Alan was an easy target for abuse from some fans which destroyed any confidence he had and seemed to degenerate into a poor player.

BUT with the signing of Lloyd Haddow, Alan was moved from left-back to the centre of the defence where he has played exceptionally well.

Did You Know?
Despite having a nightmare season, Alan was the only player to play in every game for Berwick in season 1998/9.
