took over in September 1997 after Jimmy Thompson's reign of terror. He
immediately appointed ex-Dundee United defender John Clark as his assistant.
Paul's playing career took
him to Raith, Falkirk and Dundee Ayr- to name but a few. He was at
Brockville for a number of years where he enjoyed success at the highest
As a manager Paul has had
mixed success. His first season in charge was a 'build for next season' kind
of period. In season 1998/9 the side finished mid table and the pressure
mounted despite only losing on to one team away from home. Summer 1999 saw
the arrival of top players such as Anthony from Celtic and Ritchie from
Clydebank. Despite having arguably the best squad in the division, Berwick
have been less than convincing at times during the season and many fans have
called for his head. But nine months later he led Berwick to promotion and
he has since gradually earned the respect of the Berwick fans.
In December 2000 he was
awarded a new 3 year extension on his current contract, keeping him at the club
until November 2003.
